Jadon Sancho shows true colours with Antony touch of class after Chelsea Conference League win

showed his true colours after beat Real Betis 4-1. The 25-year-old, on loan from Manchester United, played a vital role as the Blues lifted Europe's third-tier competition for the first time at the Wrocław Stadium on Wednesday.

Abde Ezzalzouli put Real Betis ahead inside the opening quarter of an hour and Enzo Maresca's side were second best for most of the first-half. However, the Blues turned it around after the break.

Enzo Fernandez equalised in the 65th minute before Nicolas Jackson scored five minutes later to complete the comeback. Then Sancho, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, doubled Chelsea's advantage in the 83rd minute and Moises Caicedo wrapped up the win in stoppage-time with his side's fourth.

It was a ruthless second-half performance from Maresca's side, who become the first club to win every major European honour available. And although wild celebrations followed, Sancho took a moment to embrace his Manchester United teammate Antony after the full-time whistle.

Sancho made an effort to go over to Antony and deliver his commiserations to the Brazilian, who has enjoyed a fine loan spell since joining Real Betis from United in January. It was a touch of class from Sancho, as the duo exchanged words and hugged for a matter of moments before parting ways.

While Sancho impressed when he came on, it could prove to be his final appearance in a Chelsea shirt. The Blues have an obligation to buy Sancho for £25million, a clause that was activated when Maresca's side defeated Fulham in April, which guaranteed a 14th-place or above finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea can, however, pay a £5m penalty fee to cancel the deal. In order to remain compliant with profitability and sustainability rules, United require £14.58m for Sancho's signature this summer.

As it stands, it remains to be seen whether the Blues look to keep Sancho on a permanent basis - or hope to include him in their squad for the Club World Cup in June.

Nevertheless, Maresca cut a delighted figure in his post-match press conference, as he helped win his piece of silverware since becoming Chelsea's head coach last May.

"Hopefully, it can be a starting point to build a winner mentality," Maresca said. "You need to win games, you need to win competition. And for sure, the trophy we won tonight is going to make us better.

"But also, I'm very proud about the path or the journey we have done in the Premier League. But for me, it's the most difficult competition in the world. You have to be consistent in 38 games. And these players, they showed. That's why after Nottingham Forest, my outburst was a little bit exaggerated.

"But the reason why is just because in 38 games, you need to be consistent. And with the youngest squad in the history of the Premier League, it's something unbelievable."

It has been an excellent week for Chelsea, who secured their spot in next season's Champions League with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Now, the Blues are the Conference League winners, wrapping up an excellent campaign before the Club World Cup gets underway in two weeks time.
