Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer approved as final Sporting £63.7m 'agreement' edges closer

Arsenal could strike a full transfer agreement with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres this weekend. For the last few weeks, sporting director Andrea Berta has worked tirelessly to wrap up the deal but the Portuguese champions have been tough negotiators.

In the meantime, Arsenal completed the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea and also finalised Cristhian Mosquera's switch from Valencia.

Work was still being done for Gyokeres and that was proven by an agreement in principle at £63.7million (€73.5m) being reached last Sunday after advanced talks began for the Swede seven or so days earlier.

Benjamin Sesko was the initial striker priority but it soon became clear that RB Leipzig were not budging on their asking price and their stance on instalments.

Similar issues have prevented the Gyokeres deal from being resolved though, with Sporting wanting easily gettable add-ons while Arsenal only wanted £2.6million (€3m) guaranteed of £8.4million (€10m) to be guaranteed.

It looks as though both parties are about to find a compromise however, following a huge update from journalist Ben Jacobs. "Arsenal now close to a full agreement with Sporting for Viktor Gyokeres," he wrote on X.

"Hope is for a breakthrough over the weekend with a small portion of the add-ons still under discussion and Gyokeres waiting for permission to undergo a medical. €63.5m+€10m package broadly agreed and only small details left."

Plenty has been said about the Swede's goal record with some concerned that, though he has scored loads of goals, he will struggle to adapt to the Premier League having found joy in a domestic division that is at a lower level.

However, former England and Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson approves of the transfer as he is of the belief that Gyokeres is more than good enough to thrive in the Premier League.

“Viktor Gyokeres is at a big club already, he's getting the level of football that the Swedish national team would want but If he does come to England, I'm pretty sure that will be welcomed, if you like, by the whole Premier League in terms of the level of play he will bring," he told Hajper.

"If Arsenal do sign him, it will be a real feather in their cap."
