Marvel Studio started phase six on a good note with critical and (hopefully) commercial success in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn in the titular roles, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman and has taken a solid start at the box office earning $118 million in the US in its opening weekend and around $218 million globally.

While the film is expected for a long haul at the box office, there is a huge buzz and chatter about its mid-credits/post-credits scene that reveals something massive and that leads to Avengers: Doomsday, next year.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Post-Credits Scene ExplainedThere are two post-credits scenes in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While the second one is just a fun nod, it is the mid-credits one that is highly important and leads directly to Avengers: Doomsday starring Robert Downey Jr as the supervillain Doctor Doom.
The mid-credits scene begins four years after the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and we see Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm reading to Franklin Richards, now a four-year-old boy, on a couch in the Baxter building.
She then gets up to get another book with the help of H.E.R.B.I.E. Sue finds the book in the kitchen and as makes her way to the living room where Franklin is, she feels that something is not right and gets into power mode to face the negative energy that has taken over her house.

As she reaches the couch to protect Franklin, the camera pans to a mysterious figure in a green cloak playing with Franklin. The man has his metallic mask in his left hand as he caresses Franklin.

No points in guessing, the mysterious figure is indeed Doctor Doom and while we are not shown the face of Robert Downey Jr as the supervillain, the screen turns to black and states, “The Fantastic Four Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday”.
What Does Doctor Doom’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps Cameo Mean For Avengers: Doomsday? There are multiple fan-theories doing the rounds of the internet but the most plausible suggests that Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom like Galactus wants to use Franklin Richards untested and unknown superpowers for himself.
And that’s why he is playing with his mask off because he wants the toddler to trust him and later wants him to create a world where he will rule.
It is possible that he abducts Franklin and that leads to The Fantastic Four whopping one universe to another in search of the kid.
This is when they reach Earth 616 (the main MCU timeline) from their Earth 828.
If you remember, the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* featured Fantastic Four’s spaceship entering Earth dimension from another universe.

It looks like the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene takes place after The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene and that leads to the main conflict of Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theatres on December 18, 2026.
