New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the contribution of RSS, which is completing 100 years of its inception this Dussehra, to nation building through sacrifice and dedication. In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' address, he said the Sangh fountainhead was formed in 1925 to fight intellectual slavery and restore self-confidence among the people during British rule and at the time of Independence.
"This Vijayadashami is special for another reason. This day marks 100 years of the foundation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. This journey of a century is as amazing and unprecedented, as it is inspiring," Modi said.
He emphasised that RSS was formed at a time when the country had been bound by "chains of slavery" for centuries which had deeply hurt its self-respect and self-confidence.
Among other issues highlighted by the prime minister was the announcement that his government is making efforts to promote Chhath Mahaparva, the biggest cultural and religious festival of Bihar, in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List. "When Chhath Puja is included in the UNESCO list, people in every corner of the world will be able to experience its grandeur and divinity," Modi said.
