Losing weight in your 70s? Sounds impossible, right? But Ankur Warikoo just proved it’s not. The entrepreneur, who himself dropped 10 kilos, recently shared how his parents—aged 70 and 72—turned their health around in just two years. From being constantly tired and overweight to leading temple trips and even joining acting workshops, their transformation is the kind of real-life inspiration you don’t scroll past.

Two years ago, Warikoo’s father weighed 110 kilos and his mother 72 kilos. Both were visibly slowing down and struggling with energy. Fast forward to today, his dad has trimmed down to 90 kilos and now manages 10-day religious trips for his temple group. His mom, now at 65 kilos, just completed a four-month theatre workshop to learn acting.

The secret? A simple but strict lifestyle overhaul. Warikoo got them to shift their diet to high-protein vegetarian options—think tofu, Greek yoghurt, pea protein, and low-fat paneer—while cutting out snacking completely and moving dinner to an earlier time.

Alongside diet changes, they also embraced strength training with the help of a virtual fitness coach. At first, the idea of lifting weights and swapping their eating habits felt too extreme. But when they saw Warikoo’s own results, they hesitantly gave it a shot. Soon enough, the results spoke for themselves, and their hesitation turned into conviction. Now, at 74 and 72, they’re fitter, sharper, and proving that age is no excuse to skip fitness.

Ankur Warikoo's fat and weight loss secret

Ankur Warikoo might have only dropped 10 kilos, but the entrepreneur says it was enough to completely change his body. Sharing his “3T Model – Track, Train, Transform,” he explained how simple discipline worked better than extremes.

The first step was tracking calories. Warikoo realised he was consuming 2200 calories a day, so he cut down to 1600 while upping protein intake to 45%. This ensured he lost fat without becoming skinny. His diet was mostly protein shakes, paneer or tofu, daal, sabzi, roti, fruits, and curd—with the occasional chole bhature or sweets. His mantra: “It’s easier to skip a 500-calorie samosa than run an hour on the treadmill.”

Next came training. Alongside tennis six days a week, Warikoo lifted weights daily, targeting six muscle groups to avoid fat loss turning into weakness. Building muscle, he said, not only improved looks but also boosted metabolism.

Finally, transformation came from consistency—logging weight, tracking progress with photos, prioritising 7+ hours of sleep, avoiding junk at home, and relying on an accountability partner. His biggest tip: make it a lifestyle, not a temporary hack.
