Gujarat bridge collapse: At least three dead as vehicles fall into Mahisagar river

At least three people died and many more are feared trapped after a bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Anand district on Wednesday. The mishap resulted in several vehicles to fall into Mahisagar river.

Meanwhile, four persons were rescued so far and the operation was on, PTI reported quoting Padra police inspector Vijay Charan.

The Gambhira bridge located on the Mahisagar river along a state highway collapsed at around 7.30 am, the official said.

"Around four vehicles fell into the river after a portion of the bridge on the Mahisagar river collapsed around 7.30 am. The vehicles, including two trucks and two vans, fell into the river. We have rescued four persons so far," he said.


Soon after the collapse, locals rushed to the scene and alerted emergency services, TOI reported.

Police teams and disaster response units reached the spot and began rescue efforts to retrieve those trapped in the wreckage.

Fire brigade officials said that the incident occurred at around 7.30am.

"A portion of the bridge collapsed suddenly. Three vehicles that were passing from that stretch fell into the river below. We have initiated rescue operations and 10 have been pulled out of the river," said a fire brigade officer.

The collapsed bridge is located around 25km from Vadodara city and serves as a vital route for transport vehicles travelling towards Saurashtra
