Makers announced animated series Kurukshetra

The series is being launched by Netflix and it will premiere on October 10, 2025. The much-awaited show, Kurukshetra, is structured as a two-part saga, with each part containing nine episodes, talking about the 18 days of the legendary battle. According to the creators, this ambitious project aims to offer a grand yet intimate portrayal of war, duty, betrayal, and inner conflict.

Created by Anu Sikka, Kurukshetra focuses on 18 key warriors, with each episode exploring a different perspective. From personal vendettas to crises of conscience, the series seeks to highlight the emotional journeys of characters often seen only in black and white. The story is written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly, who brings a fresh narrative voice to a tale that has been retold for centuries.

In addition to this, the legendary poet and lyricist Gulzar has penned verses for the series. Soon after the announcement, the fans couldn't stop themselves from lauding the upcoming series Kurukshetra and are appreciating the creative approach taken by the makers. Many are excited to see how they will bring this epic saga to life through animation.

Anu Sikka, the creator of the series, spoke about the project at a recent press event. She explained that the show's aim is to combine the timeless lessons of the epic with the visual appeal of animation, making the story both engaging and accessible.

More about Kurukshetra

What sets Kurukshetra apart is its focus on moral complexity. While the Mahabharata has often been portrayed as a battle between good and evil, this adaptation aims to highlight the grey areas, where heroes are flawed, villains are layered, and every decision comes at a cost. The creators describe it as “an emotional and immersive retelling,” which will mix storytelling with striking visuals and possibly animation, though that aspect hasn't been confirmed.

Produced under the Tipping Point banner, the show is designed not just for Indian audiences but also for global viewers who are increasingly interested in culturally rich and character-driven stories. Despite its ancient roots, Kurukshetra taps into themes that remain relevant today, identity, family, justice, and the eternal conflict between personal values and public duty.
