Send Push
Every year, India celebrates Teachers' Day to recognise the unwavering dedication and guidance of teachers in shaping students’ lives across the country. Over the years, Bollywood has also explored the teacher-student dynamic on screen, with several actors portraying impactful teacher roles.

Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan’s directorial and acting venture Taare Zameen Par is often the first film that comes to mind when thinking of Teachers' Day. In the movie, Khan plays a compassionate teacher who helps Ishaan, an 8-year-old boy played by Darshan, after suspecting he has dyslexia. The film is a touching tribute to teachers and their vital role in students’ lives.

Rani Mukerji
Rani Mukerji played an inspiring teacher with Tourette’s syndrome in Hichki. The film follows her journey as she takes on the challenge of teaching a class of underprivileged students who had given up on education and turned to unlawful activities. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the movie became a major box office success.

Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan played a memorable teacher in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. In the film, he becomes an unconventional mentor to a deaf and blind girl, portrayed by Rani Mukerji, helping her overcome her challenges. The film “is about the relationship between a blind and deaf girl and her teacher, who helps her break the barriers of her disabilities,” and it received widespread critical acclaim.

Boman Irani
Boman Irani’s portrayal of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhe, famously known as Virus, in 3 Idiots remains iconic. For most of the film, his character is shown as a strict professor who values excellence over creativity, until he encounters Aamir Khan’s character, an inventive and unconventional student. The movie beautifully captures the clash and eventual understanding between a rigid teacher and a free-spirited learner.

Hrithik Roshan
In the 2019 hit film Super 30, Hrithik Roshan portrayed mathematician Anand Kumar, who mentors underprivileged students to crack the prestigious IIT entrance exams. The film highlights the struggles of a teacher devoted to his students’ success, standing in stark contrast to private coaching centres that focus on profit over education. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the movie also featured Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Tripathi.

Teachers’ Day marks the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna awardee and scholar Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on this day in 1888.
