In a serious early morning accident near the Vanrai Police Station in Goregaon East, a BEST wet lease bus belong to Mateshwari Group crashed into a stationary truck, leaving eight people injured, including six passengers, the driver, and the conductor. The incident occurred around 6:30 am on Friday.

Senior Police Inspector Girish Bane of Vanrai Police Station stated, “We have registered a case against the bus driver for driving at a very high speed due to his negligence. He has been arrested.” The driver has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 281 (rash or negligent driving on a public way), Section 125(b) (acts endangering human life or personal safety), Section 324 (mischief), and Section 184 (dangerous driving).

The bus, operating on Route number 40 and bearing registration number MH01EM5083, was en route from Dindoshi to Sewri Bus Station when the mishap took place. Preliminary investigations suggest that a private car suddenly veered onto the main road from a service lane, cutting across the path of the bus. In a bid to avoid a collision with the car, the bus driver swerved sharply and lost control, leading to a violent crash into a parked truck (registration number RJ12 GA 4756) on the left side of the road.

The driver and conductor of the bus also suffered injuries in the accident.

Despite sustaining injuries himself, the conductor quickly arranged transportation for all the injured individuals to nearest hospital.

A BEST spokesperson confirmed that an internal investigation has been initiated to ascertain the sequence of events and determine accountability. “Safety of passengers is our top priority. We are cooperating fully with the authorities,” the spokesperson added.

"Further investigation is ongoing to determine the role of the private car and other contributing factors in the accident" he said.
