Keir Starmer outlines small boats returns deal at press conference with Emmanuel Macron

Speaking at a mjor press conference this afternoon, Keir Starmer says a deal has been struck to return migrants crossing the Channel back to France "in short order".

In return, the UK will accept an asylum seeker into the UK from France through safe and legal means for each one that is returned. Starmer says regardless of the small boats crisis, the UK must remain a "haven" for genuine asylum seekers.

He said: “This is our plan together: hard-headed, aggressive action on all fronts to break the gangs’ business model, secure our borders and show that attempting to reach the UK by small boat will only end in detention, failure and return."

He wants to make clear that crossing the channel in a small boat will only lead to "failure, detention and return".

Dad, 24, pictured after being stabbed to death 'trying to fend off mugger'

A 24-year-old dad has been named as the man who was stabbed to death outside a London casino yesterday, as a thief tried to steal his watch.

Blue Stevens died at the scene shortly after 9.30pm yesterday as police began a murder inquiry.

He had been walking outside a high-end London casino with his girlfriend when he was knifed by the man. Paramedics were unable to save the Mr Stevens who died in the street.

Emmanuel Macron's cheeky remark about Prince William uncovered by lip reader

A lip reader has revealed the cheeky comment French president Emmanuel Macron seemingly made to King Charles about Prince William when he arrived in the UK.

The French leader and his wife Brigitte arrived at the RAF in Northolt on Tuesday where they were greeted by Prince William and Princess Kate, before heading to Windsor for an official welcome ceremony.

While on the dais with King Charles and Queen Camilla outside Windsor Castle, Charles and Macron exchanged pleasantries and, according to lip reader Nicola Hickling, spoke about other members of the royal family.

EastEnders legend dies peacefully as agent issues statement

A former EastEnders actor has died. Soap and theatre star Frank Barrie has died at the age of 88, his agent has confirmed. According to a statement from his agency, Scott Marshall Partners, Barrie died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client, Frank Barrie, at the age of 88. He died peacefully at home, with his wife Mary and daughter Julia."

The Yorkshire-born actor played Edward Bishop in the BBC soap from 2010 to 2011; his character was the leader of the local church choir and embarked on a romance with Dot Cotton, played by the late June Brown.

Finally, JoJo Siwa has responded to claims that she andChris Hughesare expecting a child. In recent days, the Celebrity Big Brother star, 22, who found fame on Dance Moms has been surrounded by rumours that she is pregnant.

But the telly personality, who met her boyfriend, Love Island star Chris, 32, on Big Brother earlier this year, has now taken to her own social media channel to hit out at the claims. In view of her 46 million followers on TikTok, JoJo shared a video of herself plugging her latest single, a cover of Bette Davis Eyes, as she cleared up the rumours.
