Oasis paid an emotional tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at theirfirst London show at Wembley Stadiumas they dedicated Live Forever to the Black Sabbath icon. The rock legend died aged 76 on Tuesday as his family confirmed the sad news.
The band, led by Noel and Liam Gallagher, previously dedicated Live Forever to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota at their Cardiff shows when the tour kicked off.
In the final moments of the song, the giant screens on stage projected the number 20 on the Liverpool player's shirt, raising emotions and drawing cheers and applause among the onlooking fans in the stadium.
And now Oasis have also paid their respects to Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy. The band dedicated Live Forever to him at Wembley during the opening show at the venue which caused cheers and applause from the crowd.
A black and white photo of Ozzy appeared during the track and at the end of the song, Liam said: "That one was dedicated to Ozzy Osbourne, a Rock N Roll Star." He then launched into Rock N Roll Star.
Ozzy’s family announced he had died in statement on Tuesday which shocked the music world, as it came just over two weeks after the Back To The Beginning show at Villa Park.
The statement said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
Oasis anthem Live Forever includes the emotional lyrics: “Maybe you're the same as me, we see things they'll never see, You and I are gonna live forever.”
Oasis have returned to perform at Wembley Stadium for the first time since July 12, 2009, during their Dig Out Your Soul tour. They will play a total of five nights there.
Competition for an all important spot at the barriers has been tough during Oasis' comeback gigs so far.
And Wembley was no different with fans forming a queue hours before the group were due on stage on Friday.
The sell out tour began with two nights in Cardiff which was followed by five homecoming gigs in Manchester’s Heaton Park. The band’s two hour shows have earned five star reviews across the board and it has been dubbed the rock’n’roll reunion of the decade.
Liam and Noel headed out on stage holding hands, like they have at all the other shows so far as they prove their bitter past is behind them. They have also chose to stick to the same setlist throughout, so fans can know exactly what to expect from each show.
