Storm Amy wreaks havoc as Alfred Dunhill Links Championship suspended due to 60mph winds

Play on day two at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship was halted due to Storm Amy, with Robert MacIntyre sharing the clubhouse lead. The 29-year-old battled through horrendous conditions on Friday but delivered an impressive performance with seven birdies secured.

The weather conditions have been exceptionally severe, and with that in mind, the decision was taken this morning to suspend play due to fierce 60mph winds, though organisers have not yet called off action for the entire day.

The tournament, contested across three courses at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, has arrived one week on from the 2025 Ryder Cup, where Europe secured an incredible 15-13 victory over Team USA with MacIntyre starring.

Scotland's top golfer certainly mastered the elements on opening day, with South Africa's Richard Sterne joining MacIntyre in claiming a share of the clubhouse lead at 12 under par.

MacIntyre reflected on conditions at the close of play: "It was almost a perfect round of golf, especially once the weather came in, just a lovely round," said MacIntyre.

"It's difficult when it gets this windy. It's hard to hit the ball good with the wind. I was having to try and fight the wind on certain holes and wasn't comfortable. But I made some beautiful shots. Yeah, putted solidly in the wind."

Play is set to resume at the tournament, with big names like Gareth Bale and Andy Murray ready to swing into action. The competition pairs amateurs with pros, and while Bale has already had his turn, Murray is making his professional debut alongside world number 547 Eddie Pepperell.

The duo are currently trailing by nine shots after the former tennis ace scored three birdies. However, Murray's attempt to chip out of a bunker went awry, leaving him chuckling and bending over in disbelief.

Bale is scheduled to tee off later today, although the delay could affect his start time. Other notable players taking part, particularly following last week's events at Bethpage, include Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tyrell Hatton.

Hatton, the reigning champion, was on track to stay level with MacIntyre, but the challenging conditions have left him four shots behind the leaders.

Just ahead of him is his European teammate Fitzpatrick, who shot a 69 following his initial 67. Fleetwood, on the other hand, is neck and neck with Hatton on seven under par.
