Terrifying moment lost child walks along monorail track at Hersheypark

Terrifying footage has captured the moment a small child was seen walking along a monorail track at a busytheme park.

A commotion was caused at Pennsylvania's Hersheypark after a child was discovered walking along a elevated monorail track. Panicked adults rushed to the child's aid after he entered the secured area for the monorail ride, which was closed at the time of the incident.

Amusement park officials said that the young boy was reported missingaround 5pm on Saturday after becoming separated from his parents at the park. The spokesman said: "The ride was closed and safeguarded by a chained closure at the entrance and barricaded turnstile at the platform. The child remained at the closed station for about 20 minutes before briefly walking along the track."

Astonishing footage shared on social media showed the boy walking along the tracks, which travels around the entire park, as a crowd gathered to try and help direct him to safety. However, the boy appeared to become startled by the shouting and placed his hands over his ears.

He then started walking back and forth along the track before an adult eventually managed to get on the roof of a food stand. The adult then got up onto the tracks and grabbed the boy before bringing him down to safety, reports the Daily Mail.

Set amongst 114 acres, Herseypark was originally founded in 1906 by Milton S. Hershey for his factory employees. The park is known for its chocolate theme — due to the company business — and offers more than 70 rides and attractions, including a water park and a zoo.

The park's spokesman added: "A guest quickly noticed and helped guide the child to safety. Our team members immediately responded after he was spotted on the tracks, and at approximately 5.28pm the child was safely reunited with his family. He was unharmed.

"We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark."

The incident comes just over a month after a nine-year-old girl died in Herseypark's wave pool. Commentators praised the actions of the quick thinking adults who saved the boy from the situation. Others highlighted the importance of safeguarding and keeping track of your children.

"Some heroes... don't wear capes," one person observed. "I bet that guy is a dad because he didn’t think twice and worked fast," added someone else. Another said: "Kudos to the two men who climbed up and rescued him. They did not hesitate and reacted quick."
