Value Scope: Each way horseracing tips from Steve Jones for Friday at York on ITV

Make it a good Night in the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes. It’s going to be fast and furious in the premier 5f sprint of the season and NIGHT RAIDER (3.35) hasn’t had many goes at the minimum distance.

He even ran in the 2000 Guineas last year but I’ve no doubt he has the speed for this trip. It could well be the making of him if his third in the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes over 6f at this track in May is anything to go by.

He showed stacks of pace to lead the field for much of the race but he just didn’t get home. It was a performance that screamed of a horse needing to drop in distance.

He got that in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot and Goodwood’s Group 2 King George Stakes but he was drawn on the wrong side both times.

There should be no excuses today. Have 2pts each-way at 12-1. Sky Bet is paying out on five places.

CHAMPAGNE PRINCE (1.50) is another who hasn’t had much luck with the draw. He showed smart form in the winter when twice beating subsequent Group 3 winner Eydon on the all-weather.

His sixth in the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot was an excellent effort from a tricky draw on his first start following a four-month break.

He simply went too fast too soon from a wide draw when tailed off at Newmarket last time but there doesn’t appear to be much early pace in today’s race. Have 2pts each-way at 14-1. Several bookies are offering four places.

EGOLI (3.00) looks overpriced in the Gimcrack Stakes. He raced on the wrong part of the track when down the field in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes. He’s much better judged on his stylish victories over this course and distance and at Newbury.

The pick of his form gives him a right chance in what isn’t a deep Group 2 contest. Have 1pt each-way at 8-1.

The British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden is one of the most prestigious races of its type and Irish raider BOND (4.45) looks to have a decent shout.

Paddy Twomey’s youngster should improve a lot from his promising Killarney debut and the form of that race is good. Have 1pt each-way at 12-1. Plenty of bookies are going four places.
