Trump Calls on Xi Jinping to Help Contain Putin During Asia Tour

US President Donald Trump has said he will discuss the Russia-Ukraine war with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his upcoming Asia tour, urging China to assist the US in containing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to reporters before departing on Air Force One, Trump said, “We have imposed very significant sanctions on Russia—very tough, very strong sanctions. I think the impact will be profound.” He added that if China cooperates, the situation could improve, highlighting his desire for Beijing’s support in resolving the ongoing conflict.

Asia Tour and Key Meetings
Trump’s Asia tour will take him to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, with a planned meeting with Xi Jinping. Alongside the Russia-Ukraine war, discussions may also cover US-China trade tensions. Trump emphasized that cooperation from China could open new avenues for peace in Ukraine.

His first stop will be the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia, followed by the APEC Summit in Busan, South Korea, where he is also scheduled to meet South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. The tour aims to strengthen US relations with Asian countries while engaging China in a diplomatic effort against Russia.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, stated that Moscow, Washington, and Kyiv are nearing a diplomatic agreement to end the conflict. Dmitriev’s remarks come amid escalating tensions over new US sanctions on Russia’s oil sector.
