
Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation formed over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts on Sunday.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region during the next 12 hours. Then, it is likely to move west–northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 24 hours and cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around early morning of August 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
FORECAST FOR ODISHA
On August 17-18, a yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Malkangiri and Koraput.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.
The intensity of rain may increase during the subsequent 2 days.
On August 18-19, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for some places in Malkangiri and Koraput districts.
Similarly, yellow warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kandhamal, and Rayagada.
On August 19-20, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph continued for Koraput and Kalahandi.
Similarly, a yellow warning has been issued for one or two places in Malkangiri and Balangir .
Thunderstorm along with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.
The IMD further stated that squally wind with wind speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may prevail along and off south Odisha coast, west central bay and northwest Bay of Bengal from August 18 to 20.
