Brooklyn Beckham was mocked by golf fans during his unfortunate appearance in the Celebrity Ryder Cup event. With the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm preparing for action at Bethpage Black, the celebrities also had a round on the course.
Beckham was part of a star-studded Team Europe lineup which also included Catherine Zeta-Jones and Harry Potter star Tom Felton. Brooklyn, who is understood to be estranged from famous parents David and Victoria, played alongside Croatian NBA star Toni Kuko against two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning and comedian Colin Jost. Unfortunately for Beckham, his shots found the out of bounds zones more often than the fairway, as he and Kukoc lost 7.5 - 3.5 to the American duo with Team Europe losing to the USA team with a final score of 25 to 19 points.
To add extra salt to his wounds, the crowd wasted no time in laughing at Brooklyn's best efforts. According to the Daily Mail fans at Bethpage Black laughed at the 26-year-old for having a "terrible" game while others also said he had "a lack of talent."
Another fan is also believed to have summarised his display by saying "(He is) Hitting trees, (and) can't get out of bunkers." It also did not help Beckham was up against Manning, a two-time Super Bowl winner and NFL great, who was by a distance the most famous person in match one.
Fans arrived with posters and their own American footballs in the hope they could toss the ball with him in-between strokes. Looking at the day as a whole, an insider said: "Beckham was not in a good mood the entire game, it seemed like.
"He had his head down whenever he walked by fans who were shouting for either Eli or Colin. It was obvious that he had very few fans of his own. At one point, he walked far away from the crowd behind the rope, as though he didn't want to deal with the rowdy USA team fans."
While he may have endured the kind of performance every amateur golfer dreads, Brooklyn appeared to enjoy the day as a whole. He said: "I feel like they didn't like me at all - but it was amazing.
"They gave me a bit of rubbish but I kind of expected it, being in New York, going against Eli... they were just laughing. But it is what it is.
"I was having fun out there. I did the best I could. It was honestly just really fun. It was really nerve-wracking... but it was such a cool experience - I couldn't say no. It was amazing."
When asked about the current stories about his split with parents David and Victoria, he mentioned his wife Nicola Peltz and said: "There's always going to be people saying negative things, but I have a very supportive wife. Me and her, we just do our thing, we just keep our heads down and work. And we're happy."
