Chelsea might be about to unlock two exciting summer deals with reports suggesting a domino effect could take hold at Stamford Bridge. The west Londoners have spent heavily to improve their squad as Enzo Maresca seeks a top-four finish in the Premier League. The likes of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Jorrel Hato have all joined the club over the last few months.
A number of big names have also left Chelsea since the end of last season. Noni Madueke, Joao Pedro, Djordje Petrovic and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are just some of the players who have joined new clubs in recent weeks. More exits could follow before the window closes, with Christopher Nkunku said to be next on the chopping block.
The forward has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League since joining Chelsea two years ago. He found regular minutes hard to come by last season and has slipped even further down the pecking order this summer.
It seems likely that Nkunku will leave Stamford Bridge in the near future, with Bayern Munich said to be keen admirers. Those in power at the Allianz Arena view him as the 'ideal' player to boost their attacking threat, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea are said to be pushing to sell Nkunku as opposed to loaning him out for the duration of the season. A report from The Athletic suggests that a bid in the region of £43million would be enough for Bayern to seal the deal.
If the move goes ahead, it would open the door for Chelsea to sign two players they have been linked with throughout the summer window.
They are said to be interested in signing Xavi Simons, who reportedly wants to leave RB Leipzig and move to the Premier League. Talks have been held over the last few weeks but no agreement has been struck as of yet.
However, it remains to be seen if Nkunku leaving the club will speed up that process, seeing as Simons would effectively be joining as a direct replacement.
It could also help Chelsea to accelerate their pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho, who is desperate to join the Blues this summer. It has been reported that personal terms have already been agreed, with only a transfer fee left to be decided.
Talks were said to have ramped up earlier this week with Manchester United reportedly holding out for around £50m. The sale of Nkunku would provide Chelsea with some extra funds to get the proposed deal over the line.
While there is no suggestion that either deal hinges on Nkunku leaving the club, his exit would allow the Blues to prioritise the signings of both players ahead of next month's transfer deadline.
