Chelsea strike Alejandro Garnacho agreement with £50m Man Utd transfer exit imminent

Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly taken a giant step towards joining Chelsea by agreeing personal terms with the west Londoners. The winger has been deemed surplus to requirements by Manchester United after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim. The pair have failed to see eye-to-eye since the Red Devils manager arrived from Sporting and it seems clear that Garnacho is no longer in his plans.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Argentina international since January, with Enzo Maresca a keen admirer of his talents. Earlier this week, it was reported that negotiations at club level had progressed to an 'advanced' stage. Now, it seems there has been a breakthrough in talks with Garnacho and his representatives.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have agreed personal terms with the United winger. It is said that 'every detail' of his proposed contract has been locked in with that part of the deal considered done and dusted.

Club-to-club talks are still believed to be ongoing, though. United are seeking a transfer fee of £50million in exchange for Garnacho, according to BBC Sport, having initially valued the 21-year-old at closer to £70m.

Earlier this summer, Amorim insisted that club chiefs would not consider lowball offers when quizzed on the futures of Garnacho and several other United outcasts.

He said: "I know for a fact Omar [Berrada, CEO] and Jason [Wilcox, director of football] and the club have a number for these players.

"If they [interested clubs] don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand other clubs are maybe waiting for the last minute, but they can have a surprise."

Garnacho is thought to be desperate to join Chelsea as he looks to revive his career away from Old Trafford. His relationship with Amorim went beyond the point of repair following last season's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

He launched a public attack on his manager after being named on the bench for the fixture, saying afterwards: "It's obviously tough for everyone after this season, which was really s***, both now and after losing the Community Shield. We didn't beat anyone.

"Up until the final, I played every round, I helped the team. Today, playing 20 minutes... I don't know. The game has an influence, but the season itself and the situation at the club... I'm going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens next."

Garnacho's brother Roberto added more fuel to the fire with his own comments, writing on Instagram: "Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals last two finals... just to be on the pitch for 19 minutes and get thrown under the bus."

The winger made 58 appearances for United across all competitions last season, chipping in with 11 goals and 10 assists.
