This country is in desperate need of a modern-day Margaret Thatcher, to save us from economic collapse, uncontrolled immigration, rising lawlessness and the ever-expanding public sector rinsing the taxpayer. Mrs T came to power in 1979 when the economy was in freefall, tax was sky high, the wealthy and successful were leaving the country in droves and the unions were holding the country to ransom.
Sound familiar? And Thatcher, "steered by a star to stop Britain being satisfied with decline" turned the good ship Blighty around from being the sick man of Europe to an economic powerhouse.
But it wasn't easy. The medicine she gave to the country caused much controversy. But even when 364 economists wrote to The Times saying her 1981 budget was wrong and damaging to the country, she stuck to her guns famously saying "You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning".
What a stark contrast to the lily-livered, useless, Sir FlipFlop - Keir Starmer - held hostage by his own party and vested interests. Oh how we need her clarity, courage, and purpose to win the biggest battle of our time - mass immigration - and to take on the activist lawyers and judges, left-wing charities and vested interests who let this racket run with impunity. The truth is we can't be the home to all who fancy living here.
Mrs Thatcher knew this and kept net migration pretty much to zero. People certainly cannot keep arriving illegally, bringing cultures and customs alien to us with the intent to cause us harm. Alarmingly, of the 45,000 estimated to be on the MI5 terror watch list, over 90% are jihadis who have entered the UK supposedly in need of sanctuary but intent on bringing terror to our streets.
In 2003 she said "for years many governments played down the threat of Islamic revolution, turned a blind eye to international terrorism... indeed some politicians were happy to go further collaborating with the self-proclaimed enemies of the West for short-term gain."
So, what would Mrs T do now if she were PM? I'm sure her pragmatism would have led her to reach the conclusion the UK needs to leave the European Convention on Human Rights, and to take full control of our laws.
She made clear she was not a globalist, saying: "I prefer to have my decisions under my own hand to my own people". She would also have concluded that Tony Blair's Human Rights Act, which embedded the ECHR into British law, would need to be repealed, and the UN Refugee Convention would need updating.
What worked in 1951 is no longer appropriate in 2025. And finally, she would certainly have taken on the activist judges bringing the rule of law into disrepute. To those who'd have tried to stop her ending 50,000 breaking into the UK illegally last year, we know what she would have said: "No, no, no".
Oh what we would give to have Mrs Thatcher back in charge now.

Another week, another disaster for Keir Starmer. This time we have the collapse of the China spy case after Labour grandee Jonathan Powell allegedly told a secret Whitehall meeting the government could not describe China as an enemy in court.
The PM, who's supposed to be in charge of the country and the government, acts like he doesn't know what's happening around him and is kept out of the loop over the big decisions being made. This comes hot on the heels of the Prime Minister apparently being unaware of the extent of Peter Mandelson's relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and also not knowing about Angela Rayner's underpayment of stamp duty on her house purchase.
It makes you wonder though: what on earth does he know? What we all know is that he's useless and out of his depth. Sadly the country is facing the best part of another four years of this shambles. God help us!

Courageous medical student Grace O'Malley-Kumar has been awarded a posthumous George Medal for protecting her boyfriend from monster Valdo Calocane, who went on a murder spree in 2023 killing three people including Grace. It is right to honour heroes like Grace, but that is no compensation for a beautiful life lost.

Last week the Government presided over the banning of special offers - such as "buy one get one free" deals, known as BOGOFs - on what they deem to be "junk food", a term by the way for which there is no legal definition and which covers anything from muesli to yogurt.
This is a stupid nanny-state measure at the best of times, but to do it when food inflation is already high and the majority of people are struggling to pay their bills is utter lunacy. Labour will always chuck common sense out the window for virtue-signalling socialism. The only thing we can now hope to "bog off" is this useless government.
