MORADABAD: A 23-year-old newly-wed woman died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad and left behind a video alleging harassment by her husband and in-laws.
According to police, the woman, identified as Samreen, recorded the video on her phone shortly before her death.
In the footage, she accused her husband Junaid and in-laws of mentally harassing her and pushing her to take the extreme step.
The incident occurred earlier this week.
Samreen had called her father in distress and informed him that she was being thrashed by her in-laws. When he reached her house, she was found dead.
In the video, Samreen appears visibly distressed and says she had been struggling after a miscarriage. She alleged that her in-laws harassed her regularly over trivial issues, including her eating habits, and claimed they would disconnect the power supply to her room.
“My in-laws, are responsible for my death. My husband is also partly responsible. He doesn't understand me. He thinks everything is my fault. His father and sister keep whispering into his ears. I can't tolerate anymore,” she said in the video.
She further alleged that the family members repeatedly told her to end her life. “My husband asks me, ‘Why don’t you die?’ My sister-in-law and father-in-law say the same thing,” she said.
Her husband was reportedly in Bengaluru at the time of the incident.
