Is Charlie Kirk shooter Tyler Robinson a Republican? Here's what we know

Send Push
As the political difference with Conservative activist Charlie Kirk is being looked into as a possible motive for 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, there has been no confirmation on whether Tyler was a registered Democrat or a Republican. But reports claimed that his father, Matt Robinson, is a Republican. Tyler was apparently raised in a Conservative family environment.

Officials confirmed that Tyler had been becoming increasingly political in recent years and did not like the fact that Charlie Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Tyler was openly ranting to a friend about Kirk's event days before the event. Robinson raged that “Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate,” Cox said, citing the friend who claimed that he did not like the hate spewing.

Leaving anti-facist notes engraved on casings

Anti-fascist messages were found engraved on three unfired casings in the chamber of the rifle reportedly used by Tyler. “Hey fascist! Catch!” was written on the side along with an up arrow, a right arrow and three down arrows. Another featured the words “Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao." A third casing, engraved “If you read this, you are gay LMAO [laugh my a– off]” was found in the chamber of the weapon, a Mauser model 98 bolt-action rifle with a scope mounted on it.

The inscription on the fired casing read, “notices, bulges, OWO, what’s this?” Gov. Cox said.

Tyler does not have a criminal record and his family seems to be a normal, happy family with parents and two other kids apart from Tyler. There are photos of the family on vacation and attending sporting events.

Tyler's roommate revealed many Discord messages that he received after the shooting. Tyler told him to retrieve a rifle wrapped in a towel hidden in a wooded area close to the university campus. He told his roommate that he changed his outfit after shooting that helped him flee.
